Recommended student profile

The recommended profile for admission to the Health Sciences Program is based on the following criteria: Graduated from a Degree on any of the fields of Health Sciences, and  the completion of a Master of Research in the area of ​​Health Sciences (within the Master Programme training received must include competencies related to: clinical and epidemiological research methodology, qualitative research methodology, assessment and interpretation of health results, management of databases and bibliometrics, statistics, and evidence based health care). According to th Spanish legislation, those health care professionals who has completed at least two years of internal residency training programme (MIR, EIR, etc), can apply to the Programme. Either Spanish and English speaking students are admitted. 
 
STUDENT PROFILE WHO SHOULD TAKE TRAINING SUPPLEMENTS

Those students graduated from degrees in the Health Sciences Field who have completed a Master's degree not related to research or whose competences do not include those reflected in the previous section.

The Doctoral Program in Health Sciences defines the following access profiles
 
a) Students with direct access to the doctorate: Made up of those students from the following Degrees, which give direct access to the Doctorate Program: Degrees related to the area of ​​Health Sciences and any of these Masters: Master on New Research Trends in Health Sciences (RD 1393/2007) and subsequent verifications in accordance with current legislation, Master on Comprehensive Nursing Care in Critical Situations and Emergencies in Adults by the University of Malaga (RD 1393/2007) and subsequent verifications in accordance with current legislation, Master on Comprehensive Nursing Care in Nephrological Processes from the University of Malaga (RD 1393/2007) and subsequent verifications in accordance with current legislation, Master on International Health from the University of Malaga (RD 1393/2007) and subsequent verifications in accordance with current legislation. These applicants will not have to take specific training supplements.


b) The acceptance into the Doctoral Program of applicants who have completed some Health Care Degree, but any other Master than those indicated above, will be decided by the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program in Health Sciences based on the suitability of the Master's competencies. In the event that the Master's degree does not have a research profile, students should take the specific training complementary credits defined for this program.


c) The acceptance into the Doctoral Program of applicants who have completed Degrees other than the previous ones, or with a previous doctoral Degree, will be decided by the Academic Committee of the Doctorate Program in Health Sciences based on the adequacy of the degree and the Master's degree on the subject of this Doctoral Program. In the event that the Master does not have a research profile, students must take the specific the specific training complementary credits defined for this program.


Foreign students

As laid down in RD 99/2011, in order to be eligible for an official PhD program the candidate, in general, should hold the official degrees of bachelor, or equivalent, and master’s. In the case of those applicants in possession of a Degree obtained in accordance with foreign educational systems, without the need for its homologation, after verification by the UMA that it accredits a level of training equivalent to that of the official Spanish University Master's Degree, and that enables in the country issuing the Degree for access to doctoral studies, the general admission criteria will be applied to them. This admission will not imply, in any case, the homologation of the previous title that the interested party is in possession or its recognition for other purposes than that of access to doctoral studies. The selection of candidates will be carried out by the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program according to criteria of merit and ability.

Foreing students could considerate the realization of a Joint Supervision Thesis. It consists in the development of original research supervised by two researchers belonging to two distinct universities (one of them University of Málaga), the thesis of which is defended in one of the two universities, thereafter the doctoral degree is awarded by both universities.
