Assessment Criteria

The criteria established by the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program in Economics and Business for the assessment of full-time PhD students enrolled in the program are the following:

 

First Year Assessment [0-10]:

  • Proposed Research Plan [0-7] (Adequacy in respect to the Program, concision, level of detail and feasibility will be assessed)
  • Scientific production [0-0.5] (results, publications, etc.)
  • Research fellowships, visits to other institutions, Conference attendance, meetings, etc. [0-0.5]
  • Activities and compulsory courses [0-1.5] (If required)
  • Any other activity or matter considered relevant [0-0.5]
  • Global evaluation

 

Second Year Assessment [0-10]:

  • Progress of thesis work with respect to the proposed Research Plan [0-4]
  • Scientific production [02] (results, publications, etc.)
  • Research fellowships, visits to other institutions, Conference attendance, meetings, etc. [0-2]
  • Training and complementary activities [0-1]
  • Any other activity or matter considered relevant [0-1]
  • Global evaluation

 

Assessment of third year and subsequent ones [0-10]:

  • Progress of thesis work with respect to the proposed Research Plan [0-1]
  • Scientific production [04] (results, publications, etc.)
  • Research fellowships, visits to other institutions, Conference attendance, meetings, etc. [0-4]
  • Training and complementary activities [0-0.5]
  • Any other activity or matter considered relevant [0-0.05]
  • Global evaluation

The criteria established by the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program in Economics and Business for the assessment of part-time PhD students enrolled in the program are the following: 

 

First Year Assessment [0-10]:

  • Proposed Research Plan [0-7] (Adequacy in respect to the Program, concision, level of detail and feasibility will be assessed)
  • Training and complementary activities [0-1.5] (This refers to complementary training activities aside from the ones that may have been established by the Program Committee for students during the first year, in any. They are obligatory, and students who fail to carry them out or who fail these activities will not pass the first year assessment.)

 

Second and Third Year Assessment [0-10]:

  • The same criteria as the one for second-year full-time students 

 

Assessment of fourth and fifth year [0-10]:

  • The same criteria as the one for second-year full-time students 

 

Finally, to proceed with the defense of the Doctoral Thesis, the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program has agreed that doctoral students must meet the following requirement:

  •  All doctoral students enrolled for the first time in the program before the 2021/2022 academic year must have published (or have accepted for publication) at least one article in any journal included in the Journal Citation Reports, JCR (SCI or SSCI) derived from the investigations carried out during the completion of the Doctoral Thesis.
  • All doctoral students enrolled for the first time in the program from the 2021/2022 academic year on must have published (or have been accepted for publication) at least one article, derived from the research carried out during the completion of the Doctoral Thesis, in any journal included in the Journal Citation Reports, JCR (SCI or SSCI), except those included in the worst group of journals with atypical behavior (black group) in the report Bibliometric analysis and impact of Open-Access publishers in Spain published by ANECA, whether they are open access or subscription journals.

It is very important that in said article(s), the indications contained in articles 54 and 55 of the UMA Doctoral Regulations are taken into account. You can see a summary of those requirements in this document.
