Sebastian Ostritsch (geb. 1983) studierte von 2004 bis 2009 Philosophie sowie Allgemeine und Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft an der Universität Stuttgart und an der Université Paris X/Nanterre. Er schloss das Studium mit einer Magisterarbeit zu Hegels Selbstbewusstseinstheorie in der Phänomenologie des Geistes und ihrer systematischen Bedeutsamkeit für die gegenwärtige philosophische Freiheitsdebatte ab. Seit März 2009 promoviert er am Institut für Philosophie der Universität Stuttgart und arbeitet als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter im Rahmen des Exzellenzclusters „Simulation Technology". Seine Interessen- und Arbeitsschwerpunkte liegen im Bereich des Deutschen Idealismus (v.a.Kant und Hegel), der Philosophie des Geistes sowie der Wissenschaftsphilosophie.

Freiheit und Reflexion. Zur Überwindung verstandesmäßiger Freiheitskonzeptionen in Hegels „Herrschaft und Knechtschaft“
Mit Hilfe des Kapitels „Kraft und Verstand“ aus der Phänomenologie des Geistes wird dargelegt, dass der gegenwärtig von Deterministen, Libertariern und Kompatibilisten ausgetragene Streit um den Begriff der Freiheit nicht zu entscheiden ist. Anhand einer intrapersonalen Deutung der Dialektik von Herrschaft und Knechtschaft wird der auf dem Begriff der Anerkennung basierende Lösungsvorschlag Hegels skizziert.

Sebastian Ostritsch (born 1983) studied Philosophy and Comparative Literature at the University of Stuttgart and the University Paris X/Nanterre from 2004 to 2009. He wrote his M.A. thesis on Hegel's theory of self-consciousness in the Phenomenology of Spirit and its relevance for the current philosophical debate on freedom. Since March 2009 he is writing his doctoral thesis and working as a research assistant within the project “Simulation Technology“ at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Stuttgart. His main interests lie in the field of German Idealism (especially Kant and Hegel), the philosophy of mind and the philosophy of science.

Freedom and Reflection: The Overcoming of Conceptions of Freedom Based on the Understanding in Hegel‘s Dialectic of Lordship and Bondage
Based on the chapter “Force and Understanding“ of the Phenomenology of Spirit, the claim is made that the current controversy between determinism, libertarianism and compatibilism concerning the concept of freedom is undecidable. Hegel‘s solution to the problem, which is based on the concept of recognition, is sketched by an intrapersonal reading of the dialectic of lordship and bondage.
