Many therapeutically active molecules are non soluble in aqueous systems, or they are chemically and biologically fragile: they need to be encapsulated in a drug carrying system. These systems prevent the loaded drug from degradation so it can be effectively delivered in biological media, also providing a selective release of the drug.

Lipid carriers (SLNs, NLCs...) represent the most promising class of particulate matrices for bioactive organic molecules. Their advantages over other carrier systems include high temporal and thermal stability, good-to-high loading capacity, ease of preparation, low production costs and large scale industrial production. They can also be prepared from natural sources by using biocompatible components.

Icon Nanotech S.L. offers the preparation of lipid nanocarriers of active compounds such as sunscreens, antioxidants, functional foods or actives in cosmetics. Also Icon Nanotech S.L. is able to carry out the isolation of compounds from natural sources (mainly plants) in order to be used in cosmetic formulations, or standards in HPLC analyses.

The company works in the development of a full range of compounds and reagents for specific applications in bionanotechnology, and custom synthesis of organic compounds in small quantities (from milligrams to kilograms), mainly buildings blocks for the organic synthesis.
