Seventh Framework Programme - Capacities

The goal of this Specific Programme is to increase research and innovation capacities throughout Europe and ensure their optimal use. To this end, it is structured around seven areas under which the following collaboration projects may be funded:

• Research Infraestructures: This refers to projects focused on optimising the use and development of the best existing research infrastructures in Europe, as well as the creation of new research infrastructures of pan-European interest in all fields of science and technology.
  
  
• Research for the benefit of SMEs: With these actions, the aim is to strengthen the innovation capacity of European small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as their contribution to the development of technology-based products and markets.
  
  
• Regions of Knowledge: This initiative tries to encourage and support the development of regional research-driven culsters by bringing together universities, research institutes, companies/enterprises, and regional authorities.
  
  
• Research potential of Convergence Regions: The objective is to facilitate participation and inclusion of convergence regions in European research programmes.
  
  
• Science in Society: Funding will be granted to those projects aimed at enabling the integration of scientific and technological endeavour and related research policies into Euroepan spociety.
  
  
• Support to the coherent development of research policies: This action focuses on the effectiveness and articulation of research policies with others, including those linking it to the industry.
  
  
• International Cooperation: The main objective of this action is to develop a coherent international science and technology policy, thus strengthening strategic partnerships.
