La revista Science en asociación con la National Science Foundation (NSF) publicaron el pasado 28 de septiembre de 2007 la lista de ganadores de la quinta edición anual de Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge. En esta edición, Douglas Arnold y Jonathan Rogness, ambos de la Universidad de Minnesota, han obtenido Mención de Honor por su video Möbius Transformations Revealed.

The magazine Science in partnership with the National Science Foundation (NSF) published the past September 28th, 2007, the list of winners of the fifth annual Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge. In this edition, Douglas Arnold and Jonathan Rogness, both from the University of Minnesota, have obtained Honorable Mention for their video Möbius Transformations Revealed.

Ocurrió el pasado 30 de octubre. Juha Heinonen tenía 47 años, estaba casado y tenía tres hijos pequeños. Todos sabemos el gran matemático que era, y también gran amigo de muchos de nosotros. Lo echaremos de menos.

It happened last October 30th. Juha Heinonen was 47 years old, married and with three small children. We all know he was a great mathematician, as well as a friend to many of us. We will all miss him.

El pasado 29 de mayo de 2007 se publicó en el Diario Oficial de la Generalitat Valenciana la creación del nuevo Instituto Universitario de Matemática Pura y Aplicada (IMPA) en la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. Desde aquí, felicitamos a su director, José Bonet.

El servicio de publicaciones de la Universidad de Málaga sacará pronto un libro editado por Daniel Girela y Cristóbal González bajo el título "Topics in Complex Analysis and Operator Theory". En el mismo se encuentran las versiones escritas de los cursos impartidos por A. Aleman, K. Grosse-Erdmann y E. Saksman en la "Winter School in Complex Analysis and Operator Theory", que tuvo lugar en Antequera desde 5 al 9 de febrero de 2006. También incluye un artículo de D. Drasin, y una sección sobre Problemas de Investigación.

The publishing service of the University of Málaga will release shortly a proceedings volume edited by D. Girela and C. González with the title "Topics in Complex Analysis and Operator Theory". It contains the written versions of the minicourses imparted by A. Aleman, K. Grosse-Erdmann and E. Saksman at the "Winter School in Complex Analysis and Operator Theory", held in Antequera, from the 5th to the 9th of February of 2006. It also includes an article of D. Drasin, and a section on Research Problems.

Springer acaba de sacar una nueva revista matemática bajo el nombre de "Complex Analysis and Operator Theory".

Springer has just released a new journal of mathematics under the name of "Complex Analysis and Operator Theory".

Alec ha participado en muchas conferencias que nosotros mismos hemos asistido y continuó con las matemáticas hasta el final. Recordemos que recientemente organizó (junto con Michael Stessin and Richard Timoney) el Congreso "Recent Advances in Operator-Related Function Theory", celebrado en Dublin del 4 al 6 de agosto de 2004, y dedicado a J. Cima en su 70 aniversario. Los Proceedings del Congreso acaban de salir publicados en el volumen 393 de la Serie "Contemporary Mathematics" de la AMS. Un buen número de miembros de la red participaron en dicho encuentro y contribuyeron con alguna publicación en el libro. Todos le echaremos en falta.

Alec was an active participant at many conferences we all attended and kept his hand in mathematics until the very end. Let us recall that he organized recently (with Michael Stessin and Richard Timoney) the congress "Recent Advances in Operator-Related Function Theory". A conference which took place in Dublin, August 4-6, 2004 and which was dedicated to J. Cima on the occasion of his 70th birthday. The Conference Proceedings has just appeared as volume 393 of the Amer. Math. Soc. Comtemporary Mathematics Series. A good number of members of the network did participate in the conference and have published a contribution in the volume. We will all miss him.

La Academia de Ciencias y Letras de Noruega ha decidido otorgar el Premio Abel 2006 a Lennart Carleson, del Royal Institute of Technology, Suecia. Esto lo anunció el presidente de la Academia Noruega, Ole Didrik Lærum, en Oslo el 23 de marzo. Carleson recibe el premio "por sus profundas y fecundas contribuciones al análisis armónico y a la teoría de sistemas dinámicos diferenciales", dice Erling Størmer, el director del Comité Internacional Abel. The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters has decided to award the 2006 Abel Prize to Lennart Carleson, Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. This was announced by the president of the Norwegian Academy, Ole Didrik Lærum, in Oslo on 23 March. Carleson receives the Abel Prize "for his profound and seminal contributions to harmonic analysis and the theory of smooth dynamical systems", says Erling Størmer, the chairman of the international Abel Committee.
