Location

About Málaga

The city of Malaga is located in a privileged enclave. Whilst the Mediterranean Sea bathes the Malaga coastline, the Malaga Mountains close ranks behind to form a barrier of peaks that protects the city from the cold, whilst the regulating effect of the sea ensures the area its characteristic mild temperatures.

How to get there Malaga Airport is located within the municipality of Malaga, to the southwest of the capital, and can be accessed from the E-15 motorway, which also forms the Malaga ring road, or Avenida de Velázquez, which goes directly into the city centre.

Opening Hours. Shops, banks, restaurants and leisure facilities

Opening Hours
The shops in Malaga open between 9:00 and 10:00; they close for lunch at 13:00 or 14:00, and open in the afternoon at 16:00 or 17:00 until 20:00 or 21:30. Large shopping centres and department stores, however, do not generally close at lunchtime. Some shops and all the shopping centres and department stores open on Saturday afternoon, whilst all shops are closed on Sundays, except for certain special periods throughout the year when the shops have permission to open.

Banks and Savings Banks
Most of the banks open at 8:00 or 8:30 and close at 14:00 or 14:30. However, there is an extensive network of cash dispensers where you can draw out cash it you need to

Meal Times. Restaurants and Bars
In Malaga, as in the rest of Spain, meals are usually eaten later than in some other European countries. Breakfast is normally between 9:00 and 11:00.

Lunch is usually eaten between 14:00 and 15:00 and dinner, between 21:00 and 22:00. However, mealtimes in restaurants are adjusted to the working day and the lifestyle of our visitors, and therefore one can lunch from 13:00 until about 15:00, whilst dinner is usually served from 21:00 until about 23:30.

Theatres and Cinemas
Every day most of the cinemas offer showings from 12:00 onwards until about 00:30.

Theatres and shows usually begin at between 20:00 and 21:00, apart from morning shows, normally on holidays and Sundays, for the little ones.

Discotheques and Piano Bars
Bars where music is played (called “Pubs” in Spanish) and Piano Bars generally open from 21:00 until around 03:00 in the morning, and the discotheques usually open at 23:30 and close at about 04:30 in the morning.

About UMA

Despite numerous attempts in previous years and event centuries, Malaga had to wait until 1972 for the University of Malaga to be founded. Today it is one of the key drivers for development in this province of Andalusia. What would be its first academic centre, the Faculty of Political, Economic and Business Sciences, had been created in 1963.

Over this time, the University has gradually begun to offer a wider and richer variety of courses, and has continued to open new buildings at its two main campuses: the El Ejido campus and the Teatinos campus. This is where most University activity takes place. The Rector's Office, located in the historical town centre, is also a significant building in both institutional and artistic terms.

Two of the main objectives of the University of Malaga are to offer "quality teaching" and to achieve the "strengthening of research and technological development". In order to meet these objectives, the institution employs and actions focused in this direction. The University offers students both official degree courses and internal qualifications: undergraduate courses (seminars, specialisation courses), "cyclic studies" (long-term study programmes), and postgraduate studies. Sporting and cultural activities complete all the university has to offer.
