SUMMARY OF THE CURRICULUM:

• I got M.D. in 1980, Internal Medicine degree in 1985 and Ph.D. in 1988. Professor of Medicine since 1992 to 2013 and Full Professor of Medicine since 2014, at Málaga University (UMA), Spain. I was former Director of Internal Medicine unit at Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital, Málaga, from 2010-2015. Director of Lipid Clinic at the Hospital since 1989. Current Director of Lipid and Arteriosclerosis Laboratory at Centro de Investigaciones Médico-Sanitarias (CIMES), UMA. Scientific Vice-Director, Instituto de Investigaciones Médico-Sanitarias (IBIMA). Past President of the Spanish Arteriosclerosis Society (SEA), 2019-2021.

• Areas of expertise: Clinical management of primary and secondary hyperlipoproteinemias, especially on severe hypertriglyceridemias. Our lab is specialized in the clinical, biochemical and molecular diagnosis of Familial Chylomicronemia Syndrome and, in fact, we focus our activity to the measurement of postheparin lipoprotein lipase activity and mass as well in molecular diagnosis of LPL catabolic pathway by NGS and HRM. Other areas of interest is giving support to National Spanish Association of Patients with Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum and Adult Turner Syndrome, doing research on this rare disease. International collaboration with Prof. G. Olivecrona (Umea University, Sweden, for LPL activity), Prof. D. Quaglino (University of Modena, Italy), Prof. Olivir Vanakker (University of Ghent) and L. Martin (U. Angers, France) and COST Action C16115, for PXE
