BRIEF CURRICULUM:

He got MS in Computer Science from the University of Málaga in 1990. By means of a research fellowship he joined the Research Group of Systems Engineering and Automation of that university, where he began his research in 1991 on the problem of mobile robots navigation. In 1995 he obtained a PhD and he is currently Full Professor on System Engineering. He has participated in both national (as leader) and European resarch projects about ICT. In 1997, he started to research on the application of robots in surgery; founding, in 1998, the Medical Robotics Research Group of the Universidad de Málaga. He culminated in 2004 with the construction and the use of a minimally invasive surgery robot assistant in human clinic. In 2004 he became the Director of the Transfer Technology Office of the Universidad de Málaga and currently holds the position of rector representative for the Campus of  Excellence Andalucía TECH.

AWARDS:

The patent entitled "Sistema robótico de asistencia a la cirugía mínimamente invasiva capaz de posicionar un instrumento quirúrgico en respuesta a las órdenes de un cirujano sin fijación a la mesa de operaciones ni calibración previa del punto de inserción" was awarded as the best patent at the University of Malaga on 2007 (INVENTUM 2007).

Award "día de Andalucía" to the research group Medical Robotics on 28th February 2007 for the design, construction and make of clinical essays with the robot assistant developed under the projects FIS-00/0050-02 y PI-021708.

SPIN-OFF award from the University of Malaga to the project "Empresa Española de Robótica Médica" on 2002 and the project "Tecnolex" on 2008.
