The 2018 UMA Garage Team is made up of students from the UMA-Andalucia Tech Robotics & Mechatronics Engineering Degree: José Carlos García Moreno, Carlos Rosas Vergara, Ignacio Manuel González Segovia and Paula Ruiz Barroso, under the supervision of Prof. Jesús Morales Rodríguez and other members of the ISA Robotics and Mechatronics Group.

The UMA team was one of the seven finalists of this competition, driven by the research hub on the future of mobility founded by Seat, Volkswagen Research and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. In first position was the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

The teams tested prototypes developed by the students in three challenges: In the first, the cars had to circulate autonomously along a track, remaining at all times inside the lanes and taking the curves, lines and intersections with a time limit. In the second, the vehicles had to stop and resume the march according to traffic lights, and, in the third, the skills of the previous challenges had the added difficulty detecting and avoiding collision with several obstacles, both static as mobile.
