R. Vázquez-Martín received M.S. degree and PhD in Industrial Engineering at the University of Málaga (UMA). He began his professional career in two companies in the industrial automation area. After three years of experience, he joined as research staff to the Electronics Technology department at UMA in 2003, in the Integrated Systems Engineering research group (ISIS). He was involved in several research projects about mobile robotics and computer vision. His PhD dissertation in 2009 was focused on robot perception, localization and mapping. During his pre-doctoral term he was in two research stays, at Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR), at the Coimbra University in 2005, and in the Robotics, Perception and Real-Time (RoPeRT) research group, at the University of Zaragoza. In 2010 he joined to the Andalusian Centre of Innovation in Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC) with a Torres Quevedo post-doctoral grant. In this technology transfer centre, beside his research activity being proyect coordinator, he is involved in management to systematize the R&D&i activities within the CITIC Foundation, complying with the UNE 166002 and 166006 standards. He has been also part-time professor in Electrical Engineering and Electronics Technology departments at the UMA during this time in CITIC.
Finally, in 2016 he joined to the department of Systems Engineering and Automation at the UMA as full-time professor, and is a member of the Robotics and Mechatronics research group. His research interests are focused in disaster robotics, multimodal perception systems, vehicle dynamics in unstructured terrains, distributed robotics architectures and Industry 4.0. He is also Coordinator of Internship in the Electronics, Mechatronics and Robotics Bachelor degree.
During his professional trajectory, he has been involved in projects funded by the Spanish Government since 2003, with research activities related to robotics, machine vision and artificial intelligence in several areas such as industry, health, aerospace and robotics. He has been involved in 12 R&D projects, at regional and national level, and 18 projects related to technological transfer contracts with companies. In the dissemination of his research activities, he has more than 30 publications in journals and book chapters, where 15 of them are papers published in high impact journals, indexed in Journal Citation Reports (JCR). On the other hand, he also has more than 40 papers in conference proceedings and symposiums, and participation as sicentific committee or organizer in about 10 conferences.
