On the 20th of December, the University of Malaga's Botanical Garden hosted an unprecedented gastronomic event: the inaugural International Food Fair. Aimed at fostering cultural exchange and integration among local and international students, the event brought together a wide variety of flavours and culinary traditions from around the world.

Organised by the university's buddy programme, the initiative invited local students to share typical dishes from Spain, whether from their region, city, or town, while international students contributed with culinary specialties from their home countries.

The event exceeded all expectations, with over 20 participants presenting exquisite samples of world cuisine. From Spanish paella to Japanese sushi, Indian curry, and Colombian arepas, attendees enjoyed a diverse range of flavours and aromas reflecting the cultural diversity present on the university campus.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Miriam Seghiri, Director of the UMA International HUB, and Ph.D. José Jesús Delgado Peña, Deputy Vice-Rector for International Cooperation. To add a touch of fun and originality, both university leaders enlivened the ceremony by wearing costumes representing different cultures: Miriam donned a Jordanian outfit while Jesús opted for Indian attire, eliciting smiles and a festive atmosphere among those present.

"This event is a testament to the cultural richness and unity that characterise our university community," highlighted Professor Seghiri. "It's exciting to see how food can bring together people from different corners of the world and create lasting bonds."

The success of the International Food Fair was undeniable, and its organisers are already planning to repeat it in the future. Undoubtedly, this event has proven to be an effective platform for celebrating diversity, promoting intercultural understanding, and strengthening the university community at the University of Malaga.
