In the international field, in 1993 a cooperation agreement was signed with ILANUD (Spanish acronym that means United Nations Latin American Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders) in which the Malaga Section of the IAIC committed itself to participate in educational activities on criminal justice and human rights, organised by ILANUD in Ibero-America. In compliance with this agreement, professors from this Section attended several training workshops carried out in Panama (Panama City and Colon) and Guatemala (Guatemala City and Quetzaltenango) within the framework of a project denominated "Criminal defence in Central America". This project began with the objectives of developing a public defender system in both countries, and of paying special attention to the appropriate criminal defence of the native population and of women. Similarly, in 1995 and 1996, the Malaga Section of the IAIC participated in training activities organised in Panama, Honduras and Costa Rica by ILANUD with the objective of promoting the adjustment of these countries' legislations to the new international laws on juvenile offenders.
