Ricardo Vazquez

R. Vázquez-Martín received an M.S. degree and PhD in Industrial Engineering at the University of Málaga (UMA). He began his professional career in two companies in the industrial automation area. After gaining three years of experience, he joined the Electronics Technology department at UMA as research staff in 2003, within the Integrated Systems Engineering research group (ISIS). He was involved in several research projects about mobile robotics and computer vision. His PhD dissertation, completed in 2009, focused on robot perception, localization, and mapping. During his predoctoral term, he completed two research stays: at the Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR) at the University of Coimbra in 2005, and in the Robotics, Perception, and Real-Time (RoPeRT) research group at the University of Zaragoza. In 2010, he joined the Andalusian Centre of Innovation in Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC) with a Torres Quevedo post-doctoral grant. At this technology transfer centre, in addition to his research activity as project coordinator, he was responsible for organizing the R&D&I activities within the CITIC Foundation, achieving certification under UNE 166002 and 166006 standards. He has also been a part-time professor in the Electrical Engineering and Electronics Technology departments at the UMA during this time in CITIC.

Finally, in 2016, he joined the Department of Systems Engineering and Automation at the UMA as a full-time professor and is a member of the Robotics and Mechatronics research group. His research interests are focused on disaster robotics, multimodal perception systems, vehicle dynamics in unstructured terrains, distributed robotics architectures, and Industry 4.0. He is also the Coordinator of the internship program in Electronics, Mechatronics, and Robotics for the Bachelor's degree.

Throughout his professional career, he has been involved in projects funded by the Spanish Government since 2003, with research activities focused on robotics, machine vision, and artificial intelligence in various sectors, including industry, healthcare, aerospace, and robotics. He has been involved in 12 R&D projects at the regional and national levels, as well as 18 projects related to technological transfer contracts with companies. In the dissemination of his research activities, he has published more than 30 articles in journals and book chapters, with 15 of these papers appearing in high-impact journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR). On the other hand, he has also published more than 40 papers in conference proceedings and symposia, and served as a scientific committee member or organizer in approximately 10 conferences.
