PRE-ENROLLMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS

The Doctoral Programs offered by the University of Málaga are accessible through the website https://www.uma.es/ed-uma/. At this site, you can find the list of offered Doctoral Programs, including detailed information such as:

a) Structure and objectives of the Doctoral Programs.

b) Access and admission requirements. Enrollment process.

c) Information on scholarships and financial aid.

d) Doctoral regulations.

e) Information on the thesis defense process.

From the student's perspective, it is crucial to identify a research line within one of the programs that aligns with their professional and research interests. Therefore, gathering information about the research teams associated with the chosen line by consulting their project pages, publications, research staff, etc., is highly beneficial.

The Doctoral Program in Mechatronics Engineering has its own webpage (http://www.uma.es/doctorado-mecatronica/), also accessible through the University of Málaga's postgraduate studies web page (https://www.uma.es/ed-uma/). This page provides the following information:

a) General information and presentation of the doctoral program.
b) The universities involved (in the case of inter-university Doctoral Programs).
c) The research lines included in the program and the professors assigned to them.
d) The professors in the program, organized into research teams.
e) Specific admission or access requirements for the doctoral program.
f) The profile of the students and the competencies they should acquire.
g) All information on pre-enrollment dates and registration, specific to each university (including specific training complements for each university).
h) All notices and news related to training activities: registration calendar, seminar or workshop dates, etc.
i) The internal quality assurance system for doctoral studies.

This webpage will adhere to the guidelines set for the monitoring and accreditation of studies in accordance with respective calls. This scheme has already been implemented in the current web design of the Doctoral Program in Mechatronics Engineering (verified according to RD. 1393/2007), following the monitoring regulations of the Master's during its teaching period (Master’s in Mechatronics Engineering) and the standards commonly used in the monitoring of Quality Mentions/Excellence Mentions for the research period.

Channels of dissemination to inform potential students (about the degree and the enrollment process):

The main dissemination channels include the Doctoral Program's website, the University of Málaga's web portal, and a series of information and dissemination activities conducted annually by the University about the studies available to students.

The Doctoral School of the University of Málaga (ED-UMA) will also offer annual information sessions about the doctoral programs. These will be publicly announced and targeted at all students interested in enrolling in any of the programs offered by the University of Málaga.

Additionally, the Doctoral Program will hold informational sessions about its activities, primarily aimed at students from master's programs with subjects directly related to the program's research lines.

i) Web Portal: Besides the Doctoral Program's webpage, the University of Málaga maintains a web portal (https://www.uma.es/ed-uma/) for potential doctoral students, which includes information on accessing the Doctoral Programs at UMA, applicable regulations, scholarships, and other notable aspects.

ii) Student Orientation and Support Program: This program includes a set of activities aimed at providing university students with comprehensive information about the various official postgraduate degrees offered by UMA. This program is executed annually. The main activities developed by the orientation program include:

ii.1) Open Days: Every spring, the University of Málaga holds the “Destino UMA” University Orientation Open Days. During these days, each center prepares a stand with a responsible teacher and volunteer students who guide future university students. Central services have information stands that provide orientation on Access, Enrollment, Scholarships, Culture, Sports, Library Network, etc. Orientation talks on university access tests for each degree offered at UMA are also scheduled. These open days are coordinated by the Vice-rectorate of Students. Although the open days are aimed at pre-university audiences, the high attendance of university students has led to the inclusion of university students as an orientation group. Therefore, the postgraduate, doctoral, and own degree services of the University of Málaga inform about the different training options at the university. Additionally, the various centers of our university inform and advise university students about their doctoral academic offerings.

ii.2) Doctoral Days: The Doctoral School of the University of Málaga, as stated in its Internal Regulations, will annually organize various dissemination activities, including seminars, talks, colloquiums, open days, industry days, internationalization activities, etc. Among these, the Doctoral School of the University of Málaga will annually organize a series of days aimed at both potential doctoral students of the University and companies, institutions, and organizations interested in the future employment of doctors from the University of Málaga or in the doctoral training of their employees.

ii.3) Participation in National and International Fairs: The University of Málaga, through the Vice-rectorates of Academic Planning, Students, and International Relations, participates in orientation fairs in the regions where its students come from, especially within the Autonomous Community of Andalusia (local fairs in Lucena and Los Barrios) and in Madrid (Aula). The University of Málaga also participates in international fairs promoting the university’s overall academic offerings [NAFSA, ACFTL in the United States, ICEF China Workshop, etc.] and specifically postgraduate offerings, particularly in Latin America (Europosgrado Chile, Europosgrado Argentina, etc.), being an active member of the Association of Ibero-American Universities for Postgraduate Studies (AUIP).

iii) Orientation magazines and brochures directed at potential students: The International Postgraduate and Doctoral School (CIPD) of the University of Málaga publishes an annual information brochure aimed at potential postgraduate students (including University Master’s and Doctoral Programs). Its contents, in electronic format, are also available on the CIPD website: https://www.uma.es/ed-uma/.

iv) Information Points: The University of Málaga maintains three information points, one on the Teatinos Campus, another on the El Ejido Campus, and a third at the Rectorate, offering information to students. It also has general information screens distributed throughout the centers to continuously inform about the news, updates, and training offerings of the University of Málaga. The Doctoral Program in Mechatronics Engineering also has a specific information screen located in the School of Industrial Engineers Building. This screen continuously provides information about the program’s structure and various program updates: Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, Scholarship Calls, job offers, collaborations, and contracts in research projects, etc.

v) Personalized Attention: Through the academic coordinator of the program, a meeting can be requested to evaluate the alignment of the doctoral candidate’s interests with those of the research teams and the work conducted within them, and to identify the teams and tutor professors if interested in enrolling in the Doctoral Program.
