STRUCTURE AND ORGANISATION                        

The structure and organisation of the ED-UMA, together with its procedural regulations, are detailed in the Regulations of the Doctoral School of the University of Málaga.

The ED-UMA has an Executive Director and a Steering Committee. They together direct the activity of the School, and count on the support and guidance of the International Advisory Board.

Members


The members of the Doctoral School of the University of Málaga are the following:

  • The academic members of the PhD programmes associated with the ED-UMA.
  • The doctorates enrolled in the PhD programmes affiliated to the School.
  • The personnel of the administration and services affiliated to the School. 
  • The members of the Doctoral School's Steering Committee.
  • The visiting professors affiliated to the School.
  • Representatives of other external universities and institutions who participate in the School, this being regulated by the corresponding agreements.
     

All members of the Doctoral School of the University of Málaga should subscribe to a commitment to comply with the Code of Good Practices adopted by the School. 
 

The Steering Committee of ED-UMA


The Steering Committee (SC) is the governing body of ED-UMA. It comprises:

  • The Executive Director of the School,
  • The coordinators of the PhD programmes associated with ED-UMA,
  • The members of each of the participating entities, who, according to the corresponding agreements, have the right to belong on the Steering Committee of ED-UMA.
  • 10% of the SC members will represent the remaining collaborating entities of ED-UMA.
  • 20% of the SC members will represent the PhD students of ED-UMA.
  • 5% of the SC members will represent the Administration and Services Personnel of ED-UMA.

 

The Steering Committee of ED-UMA is in charge of carrying out all functions relative to the organization and management of the School. Specifically the role of the Steering Committee of ED-UMA is:

  • To provide information from the PhD programmes Reports presented to the ED-UMA according to that laid down in the current regulations. They are also responsible for reporting on the proposals of the coordinators of the PhD programmes, presented to the ED-UMA, in accordance with the current regulations.
  • Report on the composition of the Academic Committees of the PhD programmes, as well as the cessations and substitution of its members, in accordance with the current regulations.
  • Report on the incorporation or cessation of members of the PhD programmes of the ED-UMA, in accordance with the current regulations.  
  • Determine the specific activities of cross-cutting training for the doctorates and define and control the types of academic activities that are organized within each PhD programme.
  • Elect those members of the delegated committees whom they consider necessary and establish their roles and powers.
  • Define the policy of collaboration with other entities and elaborate the necessary agreements for their subsequent approval by the relevant bodies.
  • Resolve any conflicts arising between distinct bodies of the ED-UMA, according to current regulations of the University of Málaga.
  • Approve the Executive Director’s annual report, which should include an ED-UMA activity report and a strategic plan for the coming quarter, which in turn, should include the budget guidelines. The Steering Committee is also responsible for approving the closing of the financial year.
  • Prepare and approve the regulations of the Internal Regime and the Code of Good Practice, and if necessary the modifications to the same.

 

The International Advisory Board


The ED-UMA is assisted by an International Advisory Board, composed of world-wide reknown experts both from Academia and from Industry.

The International Advisory Board of ED-UMA will carry out an anual evaluation of the School academic activitity and of the PhD programmes achievements, as well as any other report that might be requested by the Steering Committee.
