Committees

Each year, the Academic Committee will appoint a Follow-up Committee to conduct the assessment and follow-up of PhD students. The Follow-up Committee will have three faculty members from the PhD Program, who will be appointed for 5 years or until the student defends their doctoral thesis.

The Committee will call for assessment sessions every 6 months. Doctoral candidates can apply to be assessed. No member of the Committee can assess any doctorate under their tutorship or directorship. In such a case, the director/tutor will be replaced by a support Follow-up Committee member.

The assessment committees will apply the criteria approved by the Academic Committee for the PhD program. The assessment criteria are public and are included in the Official Commitment Agreement Document.

The Committee will conduct the assessment by accessing the Research Activities Record (Documento de Actividades, DA) of each student, which must be duly updated. However, if the committee considers it necessary, they may request the presence of the student or the delivery of additional documentation or clarifications.

A positive evaluation by the committee will be an indispensable requirement to continue in the PhD program. In the case of a negative evaluation, which will be duly justified in writing, the PhD candidate must be assessed again within 6 months and will need to make new Research Plan. In the event of a second negative evaluation, the PhD candidate will be withdrawn from the PhD program, but they may appeal the decision to the Postgraduate Committee of the University of Malaga.
