If you are coming for a traineeship or internship

This information is addressed to those students who do not come with a bilateral exchange agreement but would like to do a traineeship or internship only.

**Our International Relations Office does not manage Erasmus Internships or any kind of learning period for international students coming to the University of Malaga.

Traineeships or internships in a hospital or company

If you are interested in doing a traineeship or internship in a hospital or company, you do not have to submit any documentation to the University of Malaga as we cannot sign your Letter of Acceptance.
The interested person should look up the details of the hospital (not at the Faculty of Medicine) or company and contact them directly.
If selected, it will be the hospital or company who will have to sign the Letter of Acceptance. Please find below the instructions to follow.

Work placement or internship at the University of Malaga

In case you are interested in doing an internship in a department of our university, you should contact directly with the department of the faculty and find a teacher who can lead the internship.

ERASMUS INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME VERSUS ERASMUS STUDY PROGRAMME

European students must follow this procedure to access the Erasmus Internship in any Hospital in Malaga.

The aim of the following advice is to clarify aspects of the application process for the Erasmus Internship Programme versus Erasmus Study Programme in Malaga as we are facing different problems in this aspect. The misunderstanding may be due to the different nature of the University-Hospital link in Malaga and the way we manage it.

Hospitals in Spain, even University Hospitals, have their own autonomy and the University does not have any authority when it comes to hospital residents in practice.

University professors, including Erasmus Coordinators, are not in charge of hospital internships other than those assigned to their subjects. These placements are an essential part of the curriculum and only accessible to university students, including visiting Erasmus students, who are obliged to attend lectures and exams.

This has nothing to do with the type of practical training included in the Erasmus Internship Programme. Within the framework of clinical placements, the student does not attend the University and comes only for the purpose of being in the Hospital.
To start with, the Erasmus Coordinator at the place of origin, or the student himself/herself, must go directly to the selected hospital in Malaga. It is important for the student to contact the relevant hospital department before departure to Malaga. According to the Erasmus Internship Programme, before the student can participate in this programme, his/her home university must have reached an Erasmus Internship Agreement with the hospital.
Once the document is signed, the hospital presents the Letter of Acceptance to the student. It is essential for the student to have this written confirmation from the receiving hospital department. In this letter, the duration of the residency (minimum 3 months) as well as the objectives of the stay must be clearly indicated.

Failure to obtain any of the documents (the Letter of Acceptance and the Erasmus Internship Agreement signed between the University of origin and the selected department) will invalidate any option to stay in a hospital in Malaga. Once the documentation is in order and students arrive at the hospital they should contact the management of the hospital department or the assigned tutor, if any, to be guided through the induction programme and to be appropriately placed within the department.

At the end of the three-month residency period, students must prepare an "Activity Report" or "Activity Record" which must be signed and stamped by the Hospital and sent to the Erasmus Coordinator in their home country.

By virtue of the above conditions, the clinical activities of the Erasmus Placement do not belong to any academic year of the Faculty of Medicine. In no way the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine can sign neither the activity register, nor any document related to the Erasmus Placement or the framework with the placement.

In case you need it, the person in charge of managing internships at the Hospital Regional Universitario de Málaga is José Vallejo Triano. He is the one who answers to students and manages internships at the hospital (normally he tells everyone who contacts him that they cannot do an internship).
