Project description

The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence of the UMA (UMA-JMCE) aims to develop synergies between different disciplines and resources in European studies, as well as in the creation of joint transnational activities and structural links with institutions in different countries. It also aims to ensure the openness of the EU integration process to civil society.

The Centre's strategic objective is to become a tool for providing knowledge and lifelong learning to civil society on European and global issues. Its goal is to promote and achieve a high degree of excellence in training, research, information, dissemination and awareness of the EU and its relations with the rest of the world, both academic and non-academic. It pursues innovation and the promotion of entrepreneurship towards the modernisation of the provincial and regional economy as well as its international projection.

Among its most outstanding activities are the management for the implementation of a Master in European and Global Studies (MEEG), the establishment of relations with institutions such as the European University Institute in Florence, joint research agreements with the Center for European Policy Studies (CEPS) in Brussels or the Jacques Delors Institute in Paris, collaboration agreements with other centres such as the Miami-Florida European Union Center of Excellence or the Istituto Affari Internazionali (Rome-Italy), among others. It also envisages the implementation of EU specialisation courses, courses on the management of European resources for local development, info-days on specific EU issues or the educational project "Tell my Your Europe" in secondary schools. From a European perspective, the proposal aims to contribute to the objectives of the Europe 2020 Strategy.
