The Department of Computer Science and Programming Languages was founded in 1989 and joins three knowledge areas, Computer Sciences and Artificial Intelligence Area, Telematics Engineering Area and Languages and Information Systems Area, in which it develops its teaching and research works. The department is made up, currently,by more than 170 teachers and researchers, from which 83.8% are Ph.D., as well as 8 members from Management and Services Personnel.


Despite most presence being located in the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineering, the Department of Computer Science and Programming Languages teaches in 12centers of the University of Malaga:

  • Faculty of Business and Management

  • Faculty of Education
  • Faculty of Humanities

 

In these centers, it collaborates with a total of 16 Master's Degree and 34 Undergraduate Degree, and Double Undergraduate Degree.


The department also has an intense research activity through 6 research groups: Research Group and Applications of Artificial Intelligence. (IA)2,Software Engineering Group of the University of Malaga. GISUM, Group of Computational Techniques of the University of Malaga. GTCI,Research Group in Computational Intelligence and Image Analysis. ICAI, Research Group of Computational Intelligence and Biomedicine ICB,Cooperatives Information Systems of the University of Malaga. SICUMA.


Additionally, concerning the transfer and broadcast of technology, its members collaborate actively with national and internationalbusinesses through numerous projects and contracts, as well as with University Research Institutes, such as Instituto de Investigación y Tecnologías en Software (ITIS),and Instituto de Inteligencia e Innovación Turística (i3t).
