Faculty of Industrial Engineering

Teaching

The Faculty of Industrial Engineering which is currently the biggest center of the University of Malaga, has a 90-year-old tradition in training professionals. It offers eight undergraduate degrees (three of them granting a double diploma), seven postgraduate degrees (three of them awarding a double master's diploma) and three postgraduate research programs which deal mainly with mechanic, electric, electronic, automatic, pneumatic and hydraulic systems in industries. The undergraduate studies include aspects such as the presence of robotics and domotics in industrial processes, the calculation of structures, the study of thermal engines and the aerodynamics of vehicles, the selection of materials and products, the integration of renewable energies in the electrical network, energy efficiency and the management of production processes, as well as the design, manufacture, set-up and maintenance of industrial products and the management and execution of projects. It is an essential aim that the students of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering develop a high capacity of analysis to identify technical problems in the industry. Using the theoretical knowledge acquired during the degree and the use of numerical tools and experimental measurements, students will be able to find the optimal solutions to specific problems, working both individually or in groups.

Research and Development

The Faculty of Industrial Engineering has a wide range of research groups of national and international reference in the various fields of Engineering where they count with publications of high impact indexed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR). Moreover, these groups are in close contact with other high impact research groups belonging to other faculties of the University of Malaga (Sciences, Informatics and Telecommunications) and they work together in other fields such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Applied Electronics or Computer Science. This multidisciplinary factor is worthy to the fundamental and applied investigations which are carried out in the Faculty. In addition to the theoretical and numerical training in the three doctoral programs, the postgraduates also count for their research with specific research facilities and associated projects. Some examples are the Machining Workshop or the fully equipped research laboratories for the Characterization of luminaries, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Thermal Engines, Rheology, Colloids and Nanoparticles, Aerodynamics, Cogeneration or the Metrology Center. Finally, it is worth mentioning that there are several collaborations with international research groups of high impact.
