R&D&I Offer

Research activity plays an essential role at Universities as well as a right and duty for the academic staff under the Organic Universities Act and the Andalusian Universities Act. Research fosters the acquisition and update of knowledge. Moreover, it represents a source of self-esteem and personal prestige for the academic staff.

Nonetheless, research has taken on a new and unexpected dimesion given that research results represent a source of comparison between universities, in the same way that these have served to value academic careers individually.

Moreover, one of the weaknesses of European Higher Education Systems is its lack of linkages with the industry and the business world. To meet this challenge, University of Málaga Strategic Plan 05/08 and the Strategic Plan 09/12, attempt to solve this through strategic actions such as empowering the Office for Research Results Transfer (OTRI), which acts as a mediatir with the business world, as well as promoting entrepreneurship among undergraduate and postgraduate students.

One of the major aspects of UMA's vision is its engagement with the business world, new technologies, the Technology Park of Andalusia, and the spheres of technology, economy, society, culture, and environment.

The presentation of the technological offer, in electronic and paper format, is a perfect example of our attempt to strengthen ties between public and private bodies; all done with the aim of joining forces to boost social progress in Málaga and Andalusia.
