The Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP) is aimed at contributing to the competitiveness of enterprises in the EU. CIP includes other community support programmes encouraging productivity, innovation and sustainable growth, while responding to environmental concerns.

CIP will be running from 2007-2013 with an overall budget of € 3.621 million. It will operate in different areas by providing support systems for enterprises, co-financing public and private entities within and outside Europe in pilot and market replication projects, and enabling the exchange of best practices through networking activities.

In order for CIP to complement national programmes, activities must have a European added value; therefore, the project proposal must make manifest the further need for European funding due to the scope of market targeted, the potential benefits for Europe or its transnational reach. Nonetheless, it also provides funding opportunities for individuals if the project presents an innovative response to European challenges.
