Abstract
A major oil company is looking for a reliable method to measure the condition and hardness of bolts which are used in installations located on the seabed. Hydrogen induced stress cracking (HISC) is a phenomenon which may occur under certain conditions. To supplement design analysis and various means for inspection of older sub sea installations, the company seeks methods which can measure bolt hardness / characteristics in situ with a high degree of reliability.
