Structure and Participation - JTI

Identification criteria for JTIs are as follows:

  • Inability of existing instruments to achieve established objectives

  • Scale of the impact on industrial competitiveness and growth

  • Added value of European-level intervention

  • Degree and clarity in determining the objectives and expected results

  • Relevance of the contribution to broader objectives of EU policy, including social benefits

  • Capacity to attract additional national funding and industrial investment

Based on these criteria, the EC has identified the following fields for initiatives:

Due to the diverse nature of technological challenges within these fields, each case will determine the structure under which the research programme is to be carried out, the funding scheme, and coordination of European efforts.

Structure dedicated to the implementation of JTIs ar independent legal entities that jointly manage research programmes. JTIs have their own financial and human resources, issue their own calls, oversee selection procedures, and establish the contract framework to implement the JTI's research agenda. Each JU includes a Governing Board, an Executive Director as well as other bodies depending on its specific needs.

Furthermore, they are responsible for issuing open competitive calls for proposals, establishing the procedures and requirements. The selection criteria will be based on excellent science.

JTIs are co-financed by private and public bodies, European and national, including funding from the Seventh Framework Programme and the European Investment Bank.

There are currently no open calls.
