Abstract:

Metamaterials are artificial materials that can exhibit electromagnetic properties not available in nature. The two-dimensional version of these materials are known as metasurfaces, which have shown to be a powerful tool for arbitrary field manipulation. Leaky-wave antennas, on the other hand, are guiding structures that leak power along their length and have several advantages as low profile and cost, simple feeding structure and frequency scanning. However, the emerging communication applications demand enhanced antenna performance. In this talk, the application of metasurfaces to the design of leaky-wave antennas with powerful flexibility in the radiation parameters will be introduced. The discussed research corresponds to the first part of a Marie klodowska-Curie action project carried out at the University of Toronto, Canada.
