Abstract:

The focus of this presentation is to discuss about all the required steps performed to design, realize and successfully test, the first Solid State Power Amplifier (SSPA) based on GaN technology, for Galileo application.

Starting from the project overview, all the technical issues for designing space components will be addressed and clarified, through working examples.

The analysis of technology and the selection of material and components for space applications, with their requirements and constraints, will be highlighted. Then, the design steps for the preliminary prototypes’ design, realization and tests are presented. Accounting for these preliminary results and the lessons learned, the following steps pursued for the development of the complete SSPA will be presented.
The final results of the complete SSPA realized will be presented, with some outlook on actual/future working activities.
