CIP - Information and Communication Technology Policy Support Programme (ICT PSP)

 

This programme has been set up to promote the adoption and use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) by citizens, companies, and governments, as well as to strengthen public investment in ICTs. Innovation will be promoted by widening the scope of adoption of and investment in ICTs; moreover, the development of an exclusive knowledge society, an efficient public service, and quality of life are also among the expected outcomes.

 

In order to achieve these goals, the programme is implemented via three types of action:

• Pilot (Type A) actions help ensure interoperability within the EU of ICT-based solutions currently being launched, or already in operation, in the Member States. As a result, market fragmentation of innovative services and products will be avoided.
• Pilot (Type B) actions will support the implementation and uptake of novel ICT-based solutions.
• Thematic Networks will provide a meeting point for interest groups to share experiences and reach a consensus on ICT policy implementation.
