Adolfo Sánchez Vázquez will be honoured by UMA, Centro Andaluz de las Letras and María Zambrano Center for Transatlantic Studies
The ceremony commemorates the centenary of the birth of the Andalusian philosopher.

The Life and Works of the humanist Adolfo Sánchez Vázquez will be honoured next Friday, 27th of November in a ceremony organised by the University of Malaga and Centro Andaluz de las Letras (CAL). The Faculty of Communication Sciences, the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature and the Maria Zambrano Center for Transatlantic Studies UMA – ATECH also collaborated in this tribute.
Adolfo Sánchez Vázquez, born the 17th of September, 1915 in Algeciras (Cadiz) but considered himself as from Malaga, had an undeniable carreer path linked to Arts and philosophical reflection. He was a disciple of Ortega y Gasset, professor of Philosophy and professor emeritus in the National Autonomous University of Mexico, country where he emigrated in 1939. Besides of being one of the most relevant figures in the Spanish exile, Sánchez Vázquez is known for giving the marxist philosophy a humanist interpretation and also for his ethic and esthetic analisys. In addition, he was President of the Mexican Philosophical Association and also a member of the Consultative Council for Science for the Mexican Republic. He died the 8th of July, 2011 in Ciudad de Mexico.
The tribute will start at 9.30 a.m. in Salón de Grados de Turismo. After the opening ceremony, Antoni Doménech —Ethics and Politic Philosophy Professor at the University of Barcelona— will begin the cycle of conferencies with Adolfo Sánchez Vázquez y el exilio republicano español en México. José Cepedello from the University Pablo de Olavide (Seville) will continue afterwards with his conference Praxis, estética y política en la filosofía de Adolfo Sánchez Vázquez. We will also show fragments of an interview to Adolfo Sánchez Vázquez in which he narrates his experiences in the exile.
The conferences will continue afterwards in Centro Andaluz de las Letras (CAL) from 7.00 p.m.
María Dolores Gutiérrez Navas —PhD in Hispanic Philology— will held the conference Diálogos con el tiempo. Sánchez Vázquez, poeta, focused on the literary dimension of the thinker. After that,the Dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences and Head of the Maria Zambrano Center for Transatlantic Studies Juan Antonio García Galindo alongside Luis Sanjuán Solís will held the talk Adolfo Sánchez Vázquez, periodista (1932-1939). As part of the tribute, fragments of the work El pulso ardiendo —the only book of poetry written by Sánchez Vázquez— will be recited.
