The María Zambrano Center inaugurates a new series of activities with the 1st Transatlantic Tribune

The María Zambrano Center of the University of Málaga started yesterday at the Rectorate a new series of activities, coinciding with the celebration of the 1st Transatlantic Tribune. This academic and multidisciplinary forum links the University of Malaga (UMA) with the University of South Florida (USF) and aims to create a core of strategic thinking between both sides of the Atlantic.
Adelaida de la Calle, the Rector of the University, chaired the meeting. She highlighted the importance of this initiative, which is genuine in Spain, for it represents “a bridge to America, and to the future”. The Dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences and Director of the María Zambrano Center, Juan Antonio García Galindo; and the Delegate for the Campus of International Excellence Andalucía TECH, Víctor Muñoz; were present at the event as well.
The Dean, Mr García Galindo, made public the most immediate projects of the María Zambrano Center: the celebration of a forthcoming International Workshop, which would be celebrated on the 14th and 15th of May under the title ”Crossed Paths”, as well as the creation of a University Expert Title in Transatlantic Studies for the next course.
Aside from the presentation of the project of the María Zambrano Center for Transatlantic Studies, Juan Fernando Ortega Muñoz, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the University of Malaga, delivered a speech called Transatlantic Vision in the works of María Zambrano.
As a conclusion to the event there was a screening of the documentary film Pepe el andaluz, which was awarded the 29th Andalucía Journalism Prize in the Television modality. The directors, Alejandro Alvarado Jódar and Concha Barquero Artés, shared afterwards with the viewers their impressions about the experience and realization of this audiovisual project.
