ACCESS TO UNIVERSITY TEACHING

Types of Teaching and Research Staff

The teaching and research staff of the Andalusian public universities is comprised of civil servants of university teaching bodies, and staff hired with permanent or temporary contracts, in accordance with the provisions of the Universities Act and the Andalusian Universities Act.

General legal framework

Civil servants of the university teaching bodies are governed by the Universities Act and implementation measures, by the general law applicable to civil servants, as well as the Statutes of the University of Malaga and Implementing Regulations of the University of Malaga. 

Teaching and research staff hired by the University are governed by the Universities Act, by the Andalusian Universities Act and their respective implementing regulations, as well as by the Statutes of the University of Malaga, labour law and the Basic Statute of the Public Employee, to the extent applicable, the Collective Agreement of Teaching and Research staff of the Public Universities of Andalusia and Implementation Regulations of the University of Malaga.  

Teaching and Research Places 

The entry routes into teaching bodies and categories are as follows:

Places for civil servant staff (University Teaching Bodies: Tenured professors and lecturers), are accessed through a public competitive examination, announced in the National Official Gazette (Boletin Oficial del Estado) and the Regional Official Gazette (Boletin Oficial de la Junta de Andalucia), as well as the Notice Board of the UMA's Government Building, located at El Ejido Campus, which establishes the rules for participation, the number of places, application forms, etc. The application period opens the day after such offer is announced in the National Official Gazette.

Places for Teaching and Research Contracted Staff – (associated lecturers, assistants, assistant doctorate lecturer, contracted doctorate lecturer)  are accessed through a public competitive examination, announced in the National Official Gazette (Boletin Oficial del Estado) and the Regional Official Gazette (Boletin Oficial de la Junta de Andalucia), as well as the Notice Board of the UMA's Government Building, located at El Ejido Campus,  which establishes the rules for participation, the number of places, application forms, etc. The application period opens the day after such offer is released by the Regional Official Gazette.

To access certain categories of contracted and civil servant professorships, the evaluation and accreditation of academic training and teaching and research curriculum of the interested party is required.

ACCREDITATION SYSTEM 

 

Temporary Replacement Teaching Offer 

In order to be hired as a Temporary Replacement Teacher - It is required to have previously applied to the Temporary Replacement Teaching offer, in the relevant areas of knowledge, published in the the Notice Board of UMA's Government Building, located at El Ejido Campus, and in Malaga's local press, which establishes the rules for participation, the number of places, application forms, etc. The application period opens the day after such offer is published on the Notice Board.
