UMA PROMOTES LIFELONG LEARNING FOR PERSONNEL THROUGH INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY

Here a distinction must be made between teaching assignments at other institutions of higher education in European countries, and training placements, which can host both the academic staff and administrative staff, and which enable the transfer of knowledge, practical skills and competencies of staff from other universities or companies.

This staff mobility, which is also part of the Erasmus programme, is aimed at member states of the European Union, together with the three members of the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), Turkey and Switzerland.

From 2005 to 2013, a total of 433 members of the teaching and non-teaching staff at the UMA benefited from these mobility programs. Members of the academic staff made up 83 percent, while administrative staff members made up 17 percent.

Focusing on the academic staff, about 78 percent of members taking advantage of the mobility programme chose to teach, (teaching assignments), while the rest, 22 percent, opted for training placements.

It is noteworthy that in the last academic year, 2012-2013, there was an increase in mobility in both groups, but more especially in the group comprising administrative staff, which, from the 2011-2012 academic year to the 2012-2013 academic year, almost doubled in number.

The countries acting as hosts to the most number of professionals from the University of Malaga are: Italy, the UK, Germany and Portugal. Thus, from the total number of staff members who have benefited from mobility programmes abroad, nearly 20 percent have done so in Italy, 10.6 percent in the UK, 9.4 percent in Germany and the same percentage in Portugal. Other destinations chosen are: Romania, Finland, Belgium and Sweden.
