NAUTILUS
Following the resolution of the RETOS call on September 7, 2021, the project "Swarms of autonomous underwater vehicles inspired by artificial intelligence: their time has come (NAUTILUS)", which will last 3 years, was awarded.
This project is coordinated by the UPM (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid) and involves research groups from the Spanish Universities UPM, UPLGC, UNED and UMA.
The project consists of the development of autonomous underwater vehicles so that they can carry out missions autonomously without the need of a human pilot. For this purpose, each research group has an associated task.
In our case, the Institute of Oceanic Engineering, as part of the UMA, has been assigned the task of calculating the positioning of the autonomous underwater vehicle, which is crucial for the artificial intelligence, with which the vehicles will be equipped, to know its position at all times and thus plot the navigation trajectory satisfactorily.
As part of the project team from the Institute of Oceanic Engineering are Pablo Otero Roth as Principal Investigator. María del Carmen Clemente Medina, Alfonso Ariza Quintana, Miguel-Ángel Luque-Nieto and Alberto Poncela González as members of the research team.
