INCREASINGLY COMPETITIVE PROJECTS
In recent years, the University of Malaga has increased its competitiveness in the area of international projects. As such, the university has obtained funding for around thirty projects, acting both as partner and in coordination and management. Management and guidance concerning these initiatives is the responsibility of the International Relations and Cooperation Service, whose staff is specialized in calls for proposals. In 2013, the number of applications submitted by university researchers more than doubled when compared to the previous year; a figure which shows both the interest the university community has in internationalization and the institutional support this activity receives.
The university participates in the EU’s Tempus programme, which supports the modernization of higher education in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Western Balkans and the Mediterranean region through university cooperation projects. The UMA also participates in the European Commission’s Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) calls for proposals, which allows people at all stages of life (pre-university education, university, professional and adult) to take part in the learning experience and help in the development of education and training throughout Europe.
The LLP includes other programmes such as: Erasmus Mundus, which aims to improve the quality of higher education and encourage dialogue and understanding between peoples and cultures through mobility and academic cooperation; the Grundtvig programme, which focuses on education for adults; the Jean Monnet programme, which aims at stimulates teaching, research and reflection in the field of European integration studies at the level of higher education institutions around the world; the Leonardo da Vinci programme, which funds projects in the field of education and training or the Tempus programme, which supports the modernization of higher education in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Western Balkans and the Mediterranean region through university cooperation projects.
At present, the UMA has in force the following:
