On December 4, 2024, the ORDER granting the grants corresponding to the 2023 call for KNOWLEDGE GENERATION PROJECTS and ACTIONS FOR THE TRAINING OF PREDOCTORAL RESEARCH PERSONNEL ASSOCIATED WITH SAID PROJECTS, within the framework of the State Program to Promote Scientific-Technical Research and its Transfer, of the State Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Research 2021-2023, was published on the State Research Agency's website. In this order, the Project called "Heterogeneous submarine networks for collaborative, dynamic and profitable exploration (NEMO4EX)", coordinated by three universities (UPM, UNED and UMA), appears as granted.
The NEMO4EX project part to be developed by the IIO (UMA) consists of three main objectives for an underwater vehicle (AUV):
(i) Achieve precise acoustic positioning using surface buoys and data fusion from various sensors on board the AUV (accelerometer, gyroscope, pressure sensor, camera, etc.).
(ii) Development and tune up of a 3D camera for monitoring the marine environment, which will be integrated with the navigation functions of the AUV (e.g. return to the extraction point by visual marks).
(iii) Facility of wireless charging (WPT), by magnetic coupling, which avoids the use of cables and/or divers (extraction of the AUV) for battery charging.
The project has Miguel Angel Luque Nieto (IIO) and Alicia Triviño Cabrera as Principal Investigators, as well as Pablo Otero Roth, Alfonso Ariza Quintana, M. Carmen Clemente Medina, and Alberto Poncela González as members of the research team (all members of Institute of Oceanic Engineering).
