Academic Year Opening Ceremony

These ceremonies are the most significant in the academic context and the ones that trascend the city life the most: they mark the beginning of an academic year. In line with tradition, the ceremony is of solemn nature and held at the Main Hall or Events Hall of university schools, where renowned social figures are also present. The President presides over the ceremony which opens with a written memoir of the previous year read aloud by the Secretary General, followed by a ectio magistralis delivered by a School's full professor with the greatest seniority, chosen through rotation for that year. Lastly, the President delivers the keynote speech and officially inaugurates the academic year on behalf of His Majesty the King. It closes with the performance of Gaudeamus Igitur.
