Presentation

The PhD Program in Advanced Biotechnology at the University of Málaga is structured around eight research lines, each supported by a team of established researchers with active projects obtained through competitive funding. These research lines are home to approximately 100 PhD researchers, including both national and international researchers, from the University of Málaga and other institutions such as the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, the CIBER-bbn, IFAPA, and several foreign universities and research centers (USA, Portugal, Chile, Mexico, UK, Germany).

Many of the researchers involved in this PhD program also teach in the Official Master in Advanced Biotechnology, which is currently their training period. Additionally, they are developing the curriculum for a new Master's program, the Master in Subtropical and Mediterranean Horticulture, which will provide specialized training to future researchers in the fields of Plant Biotechnology (IPP, BVEG, MBEH). This new Master's program is expected to contribute to regional development by providing specialized training in subtropical intensive agriculture, which is of significant socio-economic importance in southern Spain.

The research lines within the Advanced Biotechnology program are fully integrated into the research and development strategy of the University of Málaga. They form part of several research centers, including Bionand, IBIMA, IFAPA, IHSM-UMA-CSIC, and Ciber-bbn, which are located on the Campus of International Excellence Andalucía-Tech. This campus is a collaborative initiative between the Universities of Málaga and Seville, providing the researchers with privileged access to the associated infrastructure.
