"Measuring Territorial Cohesion and Implications for Economic Policy in the European Union. Elaboration of a territorial cohesion index and an index of Regional Potential"

This is a research project which will be implemented under the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence for a period of 18 months.

The current Lisbon Treaty adds the territorial dimension to the objective of Economic and social Cohesion of Cohesion Policy, which requires a high consensus on the definition of territorial cohesion and therefore its measurement, for the purposes of the correct application of economic policy actions in this regard. The present study aims to abound in the debate on the evaluation of territorial cohesion carrying out a reflection on an operational definition that is useful to become an instrument for assessing economic policies in the construction process and convergence the EU and, on this basis, make a proposal for indicators of territorial cohesion and regional potential and its application to EU territory.
