Short bio
María Rubio-Misas is an Associate Professor of Financial Economics and Accounting at the Finance and Accounting Department of the University of Malaga (UMA). She completed her doctorate in Economics and Business at the aforementioned university and coordinated the PhD Program in Economics and Business at the UMA from 2015 until 2019.
Her main research field is in insurance firms, where she basically analyzes issues of finance and industrial economics. She has carried out international stays at different centers such as Imperial College London (UK), Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (USA) and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (USA). Her work is presented in the main scientific forums of the sector (American Risk and Insurance Association Meetings, European Group on Risk and Insurance Seminars, Asia-Pacific Risk and Insurance Association Meetings among others) as well as in reputed finance conferences.
Her research has been published in prestigious national and international journals, among which the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Journal of Banking and Finance and Journal of Financial Stability stand out.
To carry out her research, she fundamentally relies on funds from projects of the National Research Plan although she has also been backed up with funds that correspond to projects financed by other public and private institutions. She has received awards and honors, including the Research accésit Antonio Dionis Soler 2020 award from the Fundación de Estudios Financieros and the 2023 Emerald outstanding paper published in the International Journal of Bank Marketing.
She has been the program chair and organizer chair of the 30th AEFIN Finance Forum and the local organizer of the 50th EGRIE Seminar. She has participated in different committees of the American Risk and Insurance Association and other scientific committees at international conferences. Since January 2023 she has been a board member of the Spanish Finance Association (AEFIN).
