SHORT CV:
Profesor Titular de Universidad in Systems Engineering and Automation since 2009. Ingeniero Industrial (Universidad de Málaga, 1997) and Doctor Ingeniero Industrial (Universidad de Málaga, 2002).
My scientific career focuses on aiding humans in challenging or risky tasks, initially through the development of surgical robots during my doctoral work and later expanding to mechatronic and connected systems. I have contributed to the development of industrial systems (goniophotometer, combined cycle power plant inspection system) and to the design of robots (Auriga I, Alacrane, Rambler, Cuadriga), while advancing robotic integration with technologies like 5G and wireless sensor networks. These efforts have led to collaborations with emergency response units (e.g., Military Emergency Unit, medical units of the Spanish Army or several Firefighter corps) and companies (e.g., Alisys, Vodafone) on numerous realistic field exercises, many of which I coordinated.
This work has resulted in 24 papers in indexed journals, 57 conference presentations and 11 patents (7 transferred to industry). I have led 14 competitive projects (PI in 5, including a European project) and over 30 industry contracts, securing more than €1.6M in funding.
I have organized events such as the European Robotics Forum 2020 and Jornadas de Automática 2024, and I have led Erasmus-funded summer schools with TU Dresden and Brno University. I have served in the Board of Comité Español de Automática, and I have held leadership roles as Subdirector (2004-2012) and Director of the School of Industrial Engineering at the University of Malaga (2012–2017). I contribute to ADRA and One6G initiatives, and serve on the European Robotics Forum Programme Committee, actively involved in shaping the robotics field in Europe and beyond.
