The Ph.D. Program in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Efficiency defines the following access profiles:

(a) Students with direct access to the Ph.D:

Constituted by those students coming from the following Master's Degrees:

 ●     Official Master's Degree of the University of Malaga in Representation and Design in Engineering and Architecture.

●     Official Master's Degree of the University of Malaga in Mechatronics Engineering

●     Official Master's Degree of the University of Malaga in Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence

●     Official Master's Degree of the University of Malaga in Lasers and Applications in Chemistry. Quimiláser

●     Official Master's Degree of the University of Malaga in Advanced Chemistry. Preparation and Characterisation of Materials

●     Official Master's Degree of the University of Malaga in Mathematics.

●     Other University Master's Degrees in Industrial Engineering with a research profile and depending on the suitability of the Master's Degree studied to the subject matter of this Doctoral Programme.

and who also come from one of the following degrees:

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Degree in Electrical Engineering, Degree in Industrial Electronics Engineering, Degree in Industrial Design and Product Development Engineering, Degree in Industrial Technologies Engineering, Degree in Energy Engineering, Degree in Industrial Organisation Engineering, Degree in Electronics, Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering, Degree in Computer Engineering, Degree in Software Engineering, Degree in Computer Engineering, Degree in Mathematics, Degree in Chemical Engineering, Degree in Chemistry, Degree in Physics, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Automation and Electronics Engineering, Industrial Organisation Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, and Mathematics.

These students will not have to take specific training complements.

b) Students with some of the above degrees, but Master's degrees other than those indicated above:

Acceptance to the Doctoral Programme will be decided by the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Efficiency based on the suitability of the Master's degree taken to the subject matter of this Doctoral Programme. In the event that the Master's degree taken does not have a research profile, students must take the Research Methodology subject and an optional subject depending on the line of research of their thesis. (see 'Complementary courses')

c) Students who are not in any of the situations defined in the two previous sections:

Acceptance to the Ph.D. Program will be decided by the Academic Committee of the Ph.D. Program in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Efficiency based on the suitability of the training received and its affinity to the subject matter of this Ph.D. Program, provided that the access requirements established by RD 99/2011 are met. These students will need to take the Research Methodology subject and two optional subjects depending on the line of research of their thesis. (see 'Complementary Training')

d) Foreign students:

In the case of those applicants in possession of a degree obtained in accordance with foreign educational systems, without the need for its homologation, after verification by the UMA that this accredits a level of training equivalent to that of the official Spanish university master's degree and that it qualifies in the country issuing the degree for access to doctoral studies, the general admission criteria will be applied to them. This admission will not imply, in any case, the homologation of the previous degree held by the interested party nor its recognition for purposes other than access to doctoral studies. The Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme will select foreign applicants on the basis of merit and ability. These students must take the subject of Research Methodology and one or two optional subjects depending on the level of studies taken by the student. (see 'Complementary Training')

For students with a non-direct access profile (B, C and D), the Academic Committee will be able to recognize the competencies that are intended to be developed with the training complements through other merits of a research nature included in the curriculum vitae of the applicant, depending on their affinity to the lines of this Programme.

In the event that the number of students enrolled in the Doctoral Program exceeds the number of places offered, the Academic Committee will decide which candidates are admitted by applying the following access scale:

●     Academic record of Bachelor's degree or similar and Master's degree studies and their suitability to the lines of research of the Programme (60%).

●     Grade obtained in the Master's Thesis and its suitability to the lines of research of the Programme (10%).

●     Research experience in subjects related to the lines of research of the Programme (15%)

●     Work experience in subjects related to the lines of research of the Programme (10%)

●     Other merits of the applicant's curriculum vitae, related to the lines of research of the Programme (5%).

- In the evaluation of candidates to the program, the score obtained after the evaluation will be increased by 10% if the director proposed by the candidate does not direct any other thesis at that time.
- In the evaluation of candidates for the program, the score obtained after the evaluation will be increased by 10% if the line of research selected by the candidate corresponds to the one with the lowest doctoral candidate/professor ratio at that time.
